Although it is often overlooked in favour of Manchester, Leeds is a thriving Northern city. it has a population of almost 450 000 and attracts many business travellers, too.

Thanks to its numerous attractions, Leeds is also a well known tourist location.

Multitude industries have contributed to Leeds' wealth, but the city is particularly well-known for its clothing trade. There are several well-known names associated with the city, containing Thomas Chippendale who began constructing his well-known furniture there, and Michael Marks - of m and s - who started his first Penny Bazaar there in 1884.

As well as this, it is also home to the historical Kirkgate Market. The market is Europe’s second biggest indoor market after Leicester and is open 6 days every week. There are more than four hundred stalls inside the market and another two hundred outside. It attracts over 100,000 visitors per week.

Kirkgate Market first opened in 1822 as an open air market and the first covered parts were built between 1850 and 1875. Unfortunately, most of the structure, except the Vicar Lane frontage, was ruined in a 1975 fire. inspite of the cost, the Market was refurbished in the early 1990s and after this, Kirkgate Market was upgraded from a Grade II to a Grade I listed building.

Leeds boasts a wonderful shopping centre, which boasts a shop that are suitable for any budget. in fact, you will find high end stores in the city's Victoria Quarter, comprising of branches of harvey nicks, Flannels and other designer outlets.
